When
are the Frederick Singles Dances held?
We hold
dances every first, third, and fifth Sunday evenings.
Doors open at 6:30 PM for new member registration.
Dancing begins at 7:00 PM, and we will normally
dance until 10:00PM. If there is a Federal
holiday the Monday following the dance, the dance
will go until 11:00 PM. We are in our 22nd year,
and have cancelled only three dances in that
time, all because of snow, so you can be certain
that a dance will be held.
Where
are Frederick Singles Dances held?
In the
Ballroom of the Holiday Inn at the Francis Scott
Key Mall in Frederick, MD. We have been at this
location for 19 years. There is plenty of free,
well-lighted parking available at the Holiday
Inn.
What
is the age range of the people who attend the
dances?
Members
range in age from mid-20s to 80 or more years.
The average age is in the 30s and 40s.
What
type of music is played?
DJs play
pop, top 40s, some country, line dances, and occasional
Big Band sound.
What
is the type of dancing?
Fast and
slow dances intermingled with line dances, and
mixers such as "Barn Dance" and "Paul
Jones".
Is
there a dress code?
Dress
is "office casual". Some men wear coat
and tie, others wear slacks and casual knit shirts.
Some ladies wear semi-formal attire; others,
blouse and slacks. Our only dress code is no
denims, blue jeans, tank tops, or bathing suits,
PLEASE!
What
is the cost?
The first time you come to Frederick Singles the cost is $10.00 which includes your membership card, which is good for three years, plus admission to the dance. For each dance you attend after you have joined Frederick Singles, the attendance fee is $7.00.
You must register as a new member the first time you attend a dance. You simply fill out the membership form telling us who you are and affirming that you are eligible to attend under one of the definitions of "Single," below. As to the information you supply, WE DO NOT SELL, RELEASE, OR MAKE ANY BUSINESS USE OF THIS INFORMATION.
When you
register as a new member, or check in as a member,
you will be given a name tag for that dance. We
ask you to wear your name tag as this is proof
that you have paid the admission fee for that
dance.
What happens if I lose my membership card, forget to bring my membership card, or need to renew my membership?
For any of the situations listed above, you will go to the New Member table and get a new card and will be charged $10.00 for attendance to that dance.
Who
is considered Single?
Single
means being divorced, widowed, never married,
or separated - if separated, not living with
your legal mate.
About
the Holiday Inn Ballroom
This air
conditioned Ballroom accommodates about 600 people,
and has a large wooden dance floor. The Holiday
Inn operates two cash bars in the Ballroom,
serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Free "finger food"- potato chips, pretzels,
and veggies - is available. The entire
Dance and Ballroom is designated as a NON-SMOKING
area. There are designated areas outside the
Ballroom for smoking.
Frederick
Singles is incorporated, in the State of Maryland,
as a non-profit organization. The Frederick Singles
Bylaws state that we "subscribe to the principles
of Equal Opportunity and will not discriminate
against any person because of color, race, religion,
national origin, or gender".
